Sam Cooke, inventor and true King of Soul, recorded 'Mr. Soul' in the same year as 'Night Beat' (MOVLP163), and seems to be its more adult counterpart, with soulful ballads taking up most of the album.
With standards such as "Willow Weep For Me", "I Wish You Love", and "For Sentimental Reasons", Cooke shows a quiet emotive side of himself without losing his keen sense of melody.
For the first time in over thirty years, Music On Vinyl is re-issuing 'Mr. Soul' on 180 grams audiophile vinyl with remastered audio.

PORTISHEAD – ROSELAND NYC LIVE

Along with Massive Attack and Tricky, Portishead was part of the Bristol triumvirate that popularized Triphop in the early nineties, especially in America.
But what made them stand out was their added elements of Cool Jazz, Acid House and soundtrack samples creating an atmospheric and seductive sound that appealed to a broad audience.
In 1998, when they realized that fans were swapping bootlegs of their live shows like crazy, Portishead decided to capture a unique performance.
'Roseland NYC' was a one night stand of sorts at the New York City Roseland Ballroom, where Geoff Barrow, Adrian Utley and Beth Gibbons were joined by the 35-piece New York Philharmonic Orchestra.

In this highly anticipated reunion with Brian Eno (Bowie recorded his 'Berlin Trilogy' with Eno).
They recorded the album during improvised sessions, in which Eno would hand out flashcards as a guiding light.
The original 1995 release had a very limited vinyl run, and because of that, this has always been a very much sought after album.
'Excerpts From Outside' also contains a beautiful 8-page booklet filled with notes from Nathan Adler's diary...

T.C. MATIC – T.C. MATIC

T.C. Matic were a Belgian Rock band formed in the early '80s by Arno Hintjes and Jean Marie Aerts (who would go on to produce albums by Urban Dance Squad and Absynthe Minded).
They played a mix of New Wave, Blues, Funk, Hard Rock, Avant Garde and even some French Chansons. Their eclectic mix and experimental approach to music would have a great impact on Belgian bands such as dEUS and Zita Swoon.
Their eponymous album 'T.C. Matic' from 1981 has their biggest hit "O La La La" on it, a song that can still rock dance floors today.

THE BYRDS – MR. TAMBOURINE MAN

The Byrds were one of the earliest groups who could combine the best of two worlds.
Along the way they pioneered Psychedelic and Country Rock, always keeping things recognizable with their vocal harmonies accompanied by their jangly guitars.
Their 1965 debut 'Mr. Tambourine Man' hit the flower generation like a bombshell.
'One of the greatest debuts in the history of rock', it melds their lyrical prowess with their compelling guitar riffs, and was the blueprint for their future sound.
A true classic!

MANIC STREET PREACHERS – EVERYTHING MUST GO

During the years the albums of Manic Street Preachers retained a leftist politicization and intellectual lyrical style, while adopting a broader alternative rock sound, especially after the mysterious disappearance of lyricist and rhythm guitarist Richey Edwards in 1995.
'Everything Must Go' is the Manics fourth album and was released in 1996.
Although being the first album after Edwards' disappearance, it still contains five songs with his lyrics.
The album became a commercial and critical success and is still a fine example of Britpop.
This release contains an insert.

MONSTER MAGNET – SUPERJUDGE

In a musical era dominated by Nirvana and grunge, New Jersey native Dave Wyndorf and his Monster Magnet managed to set the world on fire with an thrilling bash of retro hard rock. A simple rehashing of Led Zeppelin- and Black Sabbath-riffs would never do, and so they set their drug-damaged minds to redefining those riffs to psychedelic effect, creating their own brand of Seventies inspired space-rock.
Released in 1993, 'Superjudge' was their second album. This re-release comes with an insert and the first 1000 copies are numbered and pressed on coloured vinyl.

Before Rory Gallagher became a legendary solo Blues artist, he was starting to earn his chops as the guitarist and singer of the late '60s Blues trio Taste. 'On The Boards' from 1970 is their second and last studio album, and it reflects their prowess as a live Blues band, recording the album as they would play their best pub & club shows.
Out on vinyl for the first time since 1975!

In the late '80s Yello had their biggest success with the international hit "The Race", which was used in advertisements and (sports) programs all over the world. Combining samples and beats with Meier's deep and distinctive voice, Yello became experts in combining the suave with the eclectic. 1998's 'Flag' contains the hit "The Race" next to a number of experiments with Afro-Cuban rhythms, such as on "Tied Up".
This first vinyl re-release since 1989 comes with an insert.

THE BYRDS – FIFTH DIMENSION

THE MOODY BLUES – TO OUR CHILDREN’S CHILDREN’S CHILDREN

Psychedelic Prog-Rock band The Moody Blues were at the height of their career when they released 1969's
'To Our Children's Children's Children'. Its heavy reverb on the vocals, lush orchestration (that includes a mellotron, harp, sitar, and flute next to the more 'traditional' band set-up) and extensive overdubbing made the songs next to impossible to play live, making this the last of their 'big' studio productions.
This Music On Vinyl re-issue's audio is based on the 2008 re-mastering, and it comes in a gatefold sleeve including a lyric sheet.

This fourth volume of the Bootleg Series focuses on the religious side of The Man In Black, showcasing the best of his Gospel on three 180 grams audiophile vinyl albums.

Gary was a personal friend of Brian Wilson and hence co-wrote and produced a lot of the early Beach Boys material. But he also had a hand in the careers of The Byrds and Dick Dale.

Curt also worked with the Beach Boys and the Byrds, and was a pioneer in the warm, cheerful and upbeat sounds with prominent vocal harmonies and sophisticated production techniques.

Put both of them in a studio and you get Sagittarius, whose 1967 debut 'Present Tense' captures the sounds of sunny California and locks it into its grooves perfectly.

Now available on vinyl for the first time in over 25 years with re-mastered audio!

'Twistin' the Night Away' was one of Cooke's more successful LP's,
only his second ever to chart, and from here on, all of his albums would sell in serious numbers. It remains one of Cooke's most accessible records and the singer is at his most soulful, exciting, and passionate, on the bluesy "Somebody Have Mercy", the romantic lament "Somebody's Gonna Miss Me", the achingly beautiful, yearning "A Whole Lot of Woman", and the soaring "Soothe Me" (with Lou Rawls).
One of the great dance albums of its period, but a brilliant Soul album as well, which is why it still holds up 50 years later.
We are proud to release this record because this is its first vinyl re-issue since 1962!

WEATHER REPORT – SWEETNIGHTER

Weather Report was one of the most influential jazz-fusion groups of its era, and outlasted many of its contemporaries such as Herbie Hancock's Headhunters and The Mahavishnu Orchestra. Despite many personnel changes over its 16-year lifespan, they continued to create groundbreaking music under the guiding light of Joe Zawinul. 'Sweetnighter' from 1973 marked a new, more groove-driven approach to the music, and marks the end of the first phase of Weather Report. Zawinul was exploring the boundaries of funk, leaning more heavily on his Rhodes than ever before, while Shorter created a more concentrated sound.
This is the first vinyl re-issue since 1983.

On the 28th of May, Music On Vinyl in cooperation with Blue Note Records and EMI, will release Gare Du Nord's album 'Rendezvous 8:02' Dutch guitarist Ferdinand Lancée and Belgian saxophone player Barend Fransen formed Gare du Nord in 2001. The twosome composed a song-cycle to express their contemporary interpretation of traditional delta blues. Their debut album '(in search of) Excellounge' released in 2001 was certified gold. The follow up 'Kind Of Cool' was released in 2002. Several songs of both albums are used in the soundtracks of the series 'Six Feet Under' and the movie 'Ghost Rider'.
This is their eighth studio album and it contains eleven songs which sound and feel like birds of a feather. Two of which are destined for a soundtrack-pitch for the new Quentin Tarantino movie entitled
'Django Unchained'. In addition to a new track (Tarantino's 'Tango'), Gare Du Nord recorded a new version of "Pablo's Blues", in which blues legend Robert Johnson simply excels.

JOE COCKER – SHEFFIELD STEEL

Joe Cocker signed to Island Records in 1981 and they took him to the Bahamas where he recorded his 10th full length album:
'Sheffield Steel'.
It was released a year later. Joe was accompanied by the Compass Point All-Stars, led by legendary session musicians Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. They supplied the steady tropical groove for most tracks.
The result was a successful album, which put Cocker's name back on the map.

Several songs of both albums have been used in 'Six Feet Under' and the movie 'Ghost Rider'. 'Rendezvous 8:02', their newest and eighth studio album, contains eleven tracks.

'Sophisticated Giant' is a 1977 jazz album by Dexter Gordon recorded with an eleven-piece band including players such as Bobby Hutcherson, Woody Shaw and Benny Bailey, arranged by trombone player Slide Hampton. It was recorded a year after Gordon's homecoming to the United States, and he had been touring the country for over a year, when he had finally been given recognition as one of the greatest tenor players. This Jazz classic, with tunes such as "The Moontrane," and "Fried Bananas" is made available on vinyl for the first time in 25 years, and comes with an insert.

Between 1968 and 1977 Spirit was a highly regarded rock band achieving modest commercial success by charting no less than 11 albums in the U.S. The music of the Los Angeles based band consisted of a mixture of pop, rock, folk, blues, classical and jazz backgrounds. Guitarist Randy California used to jam with Jimi Hendrix in Jimmy James and the Blue Flames.

In 1970, Spirit started working on what is widely considered to be their best LP, Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus. Like The Who's Tommy and Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus is critically regarded as a landmark of art rock.

Os discos da MOV até se arranjam rápidamente aqui através do AAP, pelo que me tenho apercebido...

Se quiserem discos Americanos é que pode ser mais complicado...pois as Lojas Europeias quase nunca os têm em stock (ou têm pouca coisa), e nesses casos demoram muito mais tempo a arranjá-los, estamos a falar de largas semanas de espera... (e muitas vezes com pré-pagamento).

Dai que eu na minha loja Online "Farmvinyl" tenho uma abordagem completamente diferente, ou seja, tento ter sempre tudo em Stock e principalmente discos Americanos.

Claro que não posso ter tudo o que existe...tenho de fazer uma seleção, mas aos poucos e poucos estou a criar um vasto e excelente catálogo, desde os LP's mais baratos até aos mais caros, Europeus ou Americanos, Audiófilos ou não, etc...

Desde que eu ache que tem qualidade e relevância, eu tento ter...

Já tenho titulos de quase todas as editoras relevantes mas não vendo MOV, esses deixo para o AAP, pois o MJC já os arranja a um preço excelente.

Mas apesar de não vender MOV aconselho também esses, pois já ouvi alguns e achei que têm bom som e são baratos.

É uma outra perspetiva, sim. Todos os dias uma surpresa (das boas).
O problema é enquanto se faz e não faz a encomenda. Mas compreendo que não se possam/devam fazer estas compras conjuntas dia sim dia não. Convém dar alguma folga para o pessoal amealhar alguns euricos, que isto é apenas um hobby e convém guardar algum para as sopas.

"T.B. Sheets", one of the most real songs about death you'll ever hear, is a 10-minute organ packed blues jam about a dying girlfriend and one of the sweatiest and claustrophobic tunes to come out of the sixties. The latter song has been used to good effect as the sole soundtrack song to the highly recommended Nicholas Cage & Patricia Arquette movie "Bringing Out The Dead" (1999), and was also covered by John Lee Hooker.

Recorded in the same correctional facility that spawned Johnny Cash's Live At San Quentin (MOVLP105), B.B. King's recording oozes the same kind of energy that put Cash's album in the books. But with a twist: as he makes the audience applaud for the guards, this seems kind of strange on first sight. But B.B. King is no Johnny Cash: the audience knows that they are in jail for a reason, and the blues master isn't unnecessarily sympathetic of their deeds. Which is what B.B. King's brand of blues is all about: being true to yourself no matter what, and having fun while at it. Now let the good times roll!

Al DiMeola - Land Of The Midnight Sun

This 2002 compilation of #1 hits by the one and only Elvis Presley was compiled using chart data from the pop singles charts in Billboard, Cashbox, New Musical Express and Record Retailer. It is the first Elvis Presley album to feature the remix of "A Little Less Conversation" by Junkie XL that was released earlier in the year and became a worldwide hit. The album was an instant success and ended up being Presley's first album to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 and his first number one since 1973.

The live album As Recorded at Madison Square Garden was originally released in June 1972, just one week after the concert took place at the Madison Square Garden arena in New York City. This show was Presley's first live concert in the Big Apple since the 1950s. Being backed by an eight-piece band, an orchestra and eight backup singers the show itself is the more elaborately produced follow-up to his Las Vegas performances of 1969-1970.

Miracle Mirror is Golden Earring's third album and is recorded after the band made a few changes in their lineup. This meant that Miracle Mirror is a very different album than its two predecessors. One thing that the three albums do have in common is that they are all very much reflecting what's going on in the British music scene at that moment. In case of Miracle Mirror this means that psychedelia dominates, like the folkie "Gipsy Rhapsody", the blues-influenced "Must I Cry?" or the grand scale pop number "Crystal Heaven". After 45 years this album still sounds spot-on and has gracefully worn the test of time!

Dutch Prog Rockers Alquin delivered their first album Marks in 1972. Marks contains eight songs that prove the musical force of this young group who at the time were still in their University attending days. However influences of Pink Floyd and Roxy Music are apparent, Alquin succeeded in shaping their own style. Sometimes Jazzy, there are even Folk influences on this varied album. Highly recommended record.

Boudewijn De Groot - Picknick
Influenced by The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Boudewijn De Groot and his lyricist Lennaert Nijgh wanted to create the ultimate hippie album. This resulted in Picknick (1967) on which they heavily experimented with psychedelic lyrics and music. The album cover is designed by the Dutch artist Marijke Koger who was the ultimate visionary of hippie aesthetics. Amongst others she created album art and costumes for The Beatles and painted Eric Clapton's and George Harrison's guitars. She also painted the mural on the theater that debuted the musical ´Hair´ and the murals for The Beatles´ Apple Boutique.

Kayak - Phantom Of The Night
Kayak is a well known Prog group from the Netherlands that released multiple albums during the '70s. The band is influenced by bands like Yes, Genesis and Queen, the latter for which Kayak opened a tour in 1974. The band recorded Phantom Of The Night in 1978, introducing a new singer. Their move toward a more Poppy sound is apparent on this album, featuring simpler time signatures, synthesized sounds and clean vocals. Biggest hit proved "Ruthless Queen", a slow paced staple on Dutch radio.
